Breast augmentation with implants is one of the most popular and commonly performed plastic surgery procedures available today. One of the most effective ways to enhance the feminine contour is through breast augmentation. In fact, breast augmentation with implants is a procedure included in many “mommy makeover” treatment plans. Women who desire to improve and refine their feminine contours often turn to breast augmentation. Breast augmentation is a life-changing procedure. Because breast augmentation permanently changes the breast tissue, patients should be well-informed about their options before undergoing any procedure. Tampa plastic surgeon Jaime Perez will discuss all of your treatment options in great detail during your personal consultation. Your health, safety, and satisfaction are the top priorities of the entire staff at Plastic Surgery Center of Tampa.

Not every patient who undergoes breast augmentation will be happy with the results. If you have undergone breast augmentation with breast implants and are unhappy with the look or feel of your breasts for any reason, you may benefit from breast implant revision surgery. Unfortunately, the only way to correct undesirable breast augmentation results is through breast implant revision surgery. While there are many reasons a patient may not be happy with the results of her previous breast augmentation, the most common reasons for breast implant revision surgery is breast implant size, a ruptured implant, capsular contracture, and “double bubble” deformities.

If you are unhappy with the results of a previous breast augmentation, there is a very good chance that you are an ideal candidate for breast implant revision surgery. For our patients in Tampa, breast implant revision surgery may be performed to improve the size, feel, or shape of breast implants.

Breast Implant Size

The most common reason that Tampa breast augmentation patients undergo breast implant revision surgery is breast implant size. This is because breast implant size can be extremely difficult to determine prior to surgery. Indeed, determining the size of breast implants can be a confusing process for patients. Most patients who are dissatisfied with the size of their breast implants wish they had gone larger, with only a small group of patients wishing they had gone smaller. Most women who undergo breast implant revision do so in order to enhance the size of their breasts.

Breast Implant Rupture

Breast implant revision surgery is also performed when an implant has ruptured. It is important that a ruptured implant be removed promptly. If left in the body for too long, a ruptured implant can make implant revision surgery more difficult. An implant may rupture from normal wear and tear, age, a defect, excessive wrinkling of the implant, excessive creasing of the implant, and from being under-filled or over-filled.

Capsular Contracture

Capsular contracture can occur at any time. During capsular contracture, the scar tissue surrounding the breast implant contracts, causing the breast to have an unnatural appearance. This condition can be quite painful and often requires breast implant revision surgery.

 “Double Bubble” Deformities

While the term “double bubble” may sound cute, it describes a post-surgical complication in which the breast implants drops behind the natural crease of the breast, instead of dropping forward into the breast. “Double bubble” deformities can cause an unnatural and unsightly indentation to form across the bottom of the breasts. Unfortunately, the only way to correct “double bubble” deformities is through breast implant revision surgery.
