Many women dread the fast-approaching sun-filled season of summer. Often they feel that their bodies aren’t ready for that two-piece due to confidence crushing issues such as having small or asymmetrical breasts. If you are considering a breast augmentation to achieve your desired look and shape, you may think you have plenty of time to undergo this procedure before hitting the beach. Here are a few things to consider:

Our Bodies Need Time to Heal

Immediately after implants, you shouldn’t be doing cartwheels on the beach. Following just about any surgery, our bodies need a chance to bounce back and heal. The recovery time after breast augmentation somewhat varies from one individual to the next. However, typically patients experience some swelling and soreness during the first couple of weeks. A full recovery can possibly take months, which is the reason why now is a good time to have the procedure and have your body ready by summer.

Follow-up Appointments and Your Schedule

The amount of post-surgery checkups will be discussed and determined by your doctor. However, it doesn’t hurt to plan these follow-up appointments in advance, so that they don’t interfere with your vacation plans and if you put the surgery off until right before the season starts.

Scars

Scarring from this surgery tends to be minimal and scars typically occur in concealed areas such as under the breast or in the armpit. It is still recommended to avoid direct sunlight and UVA and UVB rays. Scars take time to fully form so avoiding any additional trauma to these areas is always best. Planning your augmentation well before the summer season is advantageous due to the fact that loose clothing will help deter the possible discoloration caused by the sun.
