Breast augmentation continuous ranking as number two in the United States. It is one of the safest procedures performed in plastic surgery. Approximately, there are 1 billion dollars spent in breast augmentation every year in America since more than 45 % of American women undergo breast augmentation procedure since 2000. In the past five years, there are more implant choices for women: now we have true gummy bears implants, extra-high profile implants that are constantly used in cosmetic breast augmentation. These smooth, round extra-high profile silicone implants are a great choice for patients who have a thin-skin or propensity to develop rippling.

Moderate high-profile implants are excellent choices for patients that still want the breast to look round and yet maintain a good projection. High profile implants are very common nowadays because they maintain a good projection and they are appropriate implants for patients with loose skin and can fill up the breast pocket very well.

These are called gummy bears implants because they feel and look more like a natural breast. They are made of a type of silicone rather than saline. They are very cohesive and form a stable structure in the breasts. The name for this type of silicone implants is a little misled since they are not made of solid gel, but rather semi-solid gel and covered with a solid gel shell. Some of the main reasons why women chose the gummy bear silicone implants over saline and other types of silicone implants include:

- Feeling of a regular breast tissue after colocating the implant

-  No wrinkling, folding or rippling of the implant because of the semi-solid gel filling

- Cohesive-silicone implant: retains shape over time

- The implant retains its tear-like structure (fuller at the bottom compared to the top), which makes it look natural

How do you know if the gummy bear implants are right for you?

This decision is made along with the board-certified plastic surgeon during consultation. Some of the considered factors are the age, preference for the incision and breast lift or mastopexy surgeries that may accompany the breast augmentation.
